Alpha Teams

Sample Letter/Email

Alpha Teams

One of the first steps in bringing JOURNEY to a new parish is to recruit members of the Alpha Team, 6 men and 6 women. Typically the Mission Champion will assist the pastor in identifying and inviting these key parishioners. The initial team should represent a broad cross section of the parish. It should be made explicit to the Alpha Team the expectation that they will form the Continuation Committee at the parish AND take on specific facilitator roles to support the JOURNEY process at their parish. (The Mission Champion is typically one of the 12).

  • Identify potential Alpha Team members (about 24-30 candidates)

  • Pastor sends invitation letter/email to first 12

  • Pastor/designee makes follow up call

  • Repeat process until 12 Alpha Team members have been recruited

Dear___________,

I hope that this letter finds you well!

I am writing to you about an exciting opportunity. We’d like to bring a new program to the parish, the JOURNEY: NEW LIFE IN CHRIST retreat, and we need your help. As someone who has shown impressive and consistent commitment to Christ and our community, I wanted to invite you to be part of what we call the Alpha Team for JOURNEY: NEW LIFE IN CHRIST and take a leadership role with the program.

This two-day retreat will serve the men and women of our parish by giving them a chance to encounter God in a new way, be reinvigorated by his love, and deepen connections with other men and women of the parish.

I am asking you to attend the two-day retreat at (FILL IN PARISH) on (FILL IN DATES) and then be part of the leadership team that will plan and present the retreat here at our parish. You will be asked to go through a six-month formation exercise, play key ministry roles on the first retreat weekend at our parish and then serve on the committee that will oversee the program in the future.

I will be following up with a call to discuss this opportunity with you.

God’s blessings be with you and our parish community!

In Christ’s love,

[Fr. _________]
